DeKalb County, Indiana, known as the “Hub of Transportation Heritage,” has many treasures to be discovered and experienced by residents and visitors alike. If you stop into the Visitors Bureau, or do a little searching on your own, you will find the many exciting and fun happenings in the area!

One of DeKalb County‘s most incredible features in this quaint, Northeast Indiana community are the nine museums in the area! The rich history that DeKalb County encompasses is one of the key reasons individuals and groups thoroughly enjoy visiting and continue to come back.

History and memorabilia surrounding automobiles, aircraft, military, railroad, farming and county subjects will allow visitors to the museums an in depth look into the past.

An excellent option for those wanting to visit many (or all) of the museums is a passport that can be found at any of the museums. This passport provides discounts to each museum following the regular admission price at the first museum!

The nine museums, in addition to the other landmarks, restaurants, shopping, recreation & events, will provide the public with activities to make their stay extremely enjoyable.

With the winter months quickly approaching, some of the museums in the area will be changing hours or closing for the season. Please take a look at each museum’s hours listed below and share with friends and family to spread word of these temporary modifications!

Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum

  • Hours: Monday- Friday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM  ;   Saturday & Sunday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

National Auto & Truck Museum

  • Hours: Monday- Sunday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Winter Hours (December 1st- March 1st) Thursday & Friday, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM ;  Saturday & Sunday, 9:00 to 5:00 PM

National Military History Center   //   Kruse Automotive & Carriage Museum

  • Hours: Monday- Sunday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Early Ford V-8 Foundation Museum

  • Hours: Monday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM ; Tuesday- Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Hoosier Air Museum

  • Hours: Wednesday- Sunday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Winter Hours: Closed December 15th to March 15 (Large Groups welcome by appointment)

Garrett Historical Railroad Museum

  • Hours: Saturday & Sunday, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
  • Winter Hours: Closed October to May (Opens Memorial Day- September)

Garrett Museum of Art

  • Hours: Friday, 5:00 to 8:00 PM ; Saturday, 4:00 to 7:00 PM ;  Sunday, 1:00 to 4:00 PM

DeKalb County Horsemen’s Draft Animal Museum

  • Hours: Open on Weekends, 1:00 PM to 4:00 pm, unless scheduled event is taking place
  • Winter Hours: Closed November- April (Opens again May- October)

DeKalb County History Museum

  • Hours: Friday & Saturday, 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM
  • Winter Hours: Closed October through April (Opens May- September)
