One of the highlights of summer in DeKalb County is…festivals! Many of the towns within the county have a celebration in which many residents of DeKalb, and elsewhere, come together and have lots of fun! This weekend’s festival did exactly that! I headed to Butler, Indiana, to attend the Butler Days Festival!
Let me say: it did not disappoint! The festival extended from Thursday through Saturday, and there were fun activities to attend each day! Thursday featured a hog roast and a karaoke contest! Now that is a fun way to start off a festival!
Friday, August 7th, the festival had a neat performance by The Ball Brothers, which is a band consisting of four talented vocalists. Also, Friday included a cruise-in and a light parade!
Saturday stole the show with numerous events, festivites, and activities for all ages! When I pulled up to the Elementary School in Butler, where the festival was located, the prominent activity was the car show! Countless cars, of all kinds, were lined up and shining in the sun! It was a perfect day for an outside festival.
After I walked through the car show, I came across some food vendors! I saw iGrandma’s Food Truck, the East Side Concessions Cruiser, and Sechler’s Pickles!
I decided to make my way over to the Sechler’s Pickles tent, because who can resist? The women working, Janice, told me that she set up the vendor tent as a fundraiser for her son. He is a student at East Side and was given the incredible opportunity to be part of the Indiana Ambassadors of Music 2016 European Tour! Three other students from East Side have been asked to be a part of the trip to Europe as well. Janice said, “My boss is amazing and donated Sechler’s Pickle items for me to sell and recieve proceeds for my son!”
On Saturday, there was also a Corn Hole Tournament and a performance by Big Caddy Daddy! Of course, no summer festival is complete without fireworks, and that is exactly what the Butler Days Festival ended with!
I am looking foward to the next festival in DeKalb County, which is the Summer 70’s Music Festival in Garrett, Saturday, August 15th!
